Zero-Carbon Bio-Cement & Bio-Concrete
Ready-Mix | Flow-Fill | Licensed Bio-Material for Existing Manufacturers | Precast Products
Traditional cement and concrete production pumps 11 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every day – causing 8% of the world’s annual CO2 emissions – and consumes 9% of the world’s annual industrial water.
At Prometheus Materials, we provide sustainable building materials that accelerate the world’s transition to a carbon-negative future.
Inspired by the way that nature creates seashells and coral reefs, our unique process combines naturally occurring microalgae with other essential components to create a zero-carbon bio-cement. When mixed with aggregate, it forms a zero-carbon bio-concrete with mechanical, physical and thermal properties that are comparable or superior to portland cement-based concrete. Virtually all of the water used in creating our bio-concrete is returned to the earth.
Our building materials both AVOID the carbon-intensive operations involved in manufacturing and transporting traditional cement and SEQUESTER embodied carbon from microalgae and biomineralization.
Be a part of progress – as we correct the past, construct the present and conserve the future.
UPDATE FOR CHICAGO BUILD 2024! ... While we’ve established and continue to improve our initial precast product line – which includes masonry units, segmented modular blocks, acoustic panels, paving stones and grass pavers – we’re also developing and deploying zero-carbon bio-cement for ready-mix and flow-fill applications as well as providing licensed bio-material solutions ... Our licensing model involves shipping our dried microalgae and calcium carbonate to existing manufacturers, who then use their current equipment – with no refitting required – to produce their own zero-carbon bio-concrete products. Our material is a drop-in replacement within their existing process.
We’re actively pursuing new bio-material licensing agreements!
