Chicago kicks off road construction season
The City of Chicago has started the 2023 road construction season, highlighting one of several projects – resurfacing of 3.75 miles of 63rd Street between Harlem Avenue and Calumet Avenue.
Work includes repairing utility trenches, correcting problems with standing water, upgrading curb extensions and upgrading pavement markings and crosswalks.
Plans are underway to repave 150 miles of streets this year, including:
- Addison Street from Octiavia Street to Luna Avenue (2.25 miles)
- Division Street from California to Kedzie (.5 miles)
- Homan Avenue from Roosevelt Road to Chicago Avenue (2 miles)
- Kedzie Avenue 51st Street to 63rd Street (1.5 miles)
- Taylor Street from Western Avenue to Racine Avenue (1.25 miles)
- Western Avenue from Belmont Avenue to Foster Avenue (2.5 miles)
The Illinois DOT is also planning a busy construction season, including 12 major construction projects in Macon County with $195 million from the Rebuild Illinois capital plan.
“Rebuild Illinois is revitalizing communities and neighborhoods by investing in projects and people in the Macon County area and throughout the state,” said Gov. JB Pritzker. “Through the largest capital program in state history, IDOT will be delivering improvements to build a more resilient, accessible and equitable system of transportation for generations to come, while creating jobs and enhancing local quality of life.”
