Construction Concludes for Prairie Shores Clubhouse in Bronzeville
The new amenity clubhouse at Bronzeville‘s Prairie Shores residential complex has seen the completion of its new two-story amenity clubhouse. The building is the centerpiece of extensive renovation work that has been ongoing at the property. Golub & Company and Farpoint Development, who jointly purchased Prairie Shores in 2019 for $180 million, are responsible for the upgrades, which include interior renovations of the 1,675 residences, landscaping improvements, and common area upgrades.
The new facility, located at 2937 S Martin Luther King Drive on the site of a former parking lot, will provide a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. The main area includes a fitness center that offers strength training on the first floor and cardio on the second. Other indoor features include a lounge area, a game room, a kitchen/bar, and a co-working center.
The design by Gensler is highlighted with a curvilinear massing that appears as a beacon from S Martin Luther King Drive. The facade for this structure has an anchor made up of tan brickwork along its first floor and swooping glass curtain wall along the second. This glass portion of the building is designed to be more visible for birds, while also creating a light-diffusing effect for humans to enjoy. The inside design by Stanton Interior Concepts carries this airy motif with lighter colored materials and finishes.
Residents will find bus stops for Route 3 just to the north at King Drive & 29th Street, and CTA L service is a bit further, with the nearest Green Line service at 35th-Bronzeville-IIT station via a 22-minute walk southwest.
This is just one of the many residential construction projects underway in Bronzeville as the neighborhood continues its transformation. With Leopardo Construction having served as general contractor, remaining interior work is wrapping up, and a full opening appears imminent.
