Permit issued to begin renovation of 801 West Madison into The Neighborhood Hotel West Loop

Permit issued to begin renovation of 801 West Madison into The Neighborhood Hotel West Loop

A renovation permit was issued August 1 by the city of Chicago to convert the former Mid-City Trust & Savings Bank building at 801 West Madison Street into a hotel. Built in 1912, it was designated a Chicago Landmark in 2012. Vacant since 2005, it was last occupied by MB Financial Bank.

The conversion is being led by The Neighborhood Hotels. They’ve converted two other Chicago buildings in hotels: at 1431 West Taylor Street in Little Italy (the former Italian American Sports Hall of Fame), and a five-story German Renaissance Revival building at 2616 North Clark Street in Lincoln Park that built in 1893.

Pappageorge Haymes Partners is the architect of record for the West Loop renovation. The hotel will include 76 rooms across its six stories, with 22,000 square feet of commercial and retail space. Bulley & Andrews is the general contractor. Completion and arrival of first guests is anticipated in 2025.

Guests of The Neighborhood Hotel West Loop will find bus stops for Routes 8 and 20 right outside the hotel entrance. Chicago Union Station and Ogilvie Transportation Center are each within a six-block walk. The nearest L platforms are the UIC Halsted Blue Line and Morgan Green Line stations, each about half a mile away.
