Michael Blackburn
Michael Blackburn is a Senior Environmental Health & Safety Director for Turner Construction Company. His current responsibilities include Regional leadership in adhering to Turner safety and risk management policies by implementing safety programs and initiatives, providing safety training, and implementing strategic safety planning. Michael has helped develop a safety program at Turner that looks to leading indicators and risk assessments as the first step towards sustainable safety results and a culture that puts safety at the continuous improvement table with other critical business imperatives.
Michael is an accomplished safety professional with more than 30 years of experience in domestic and international construction safety. He has worked on numerous high-profile/high-risk construction projects including commercial high-rises, sports stadiums, data centers, airports, healthcare and higher education. Michael teaches a class on Construction Safety implementation for the Turner School of Construction Management. He has also guest lectured numerous times at Northwestern University and Illinois State University on construction safety and risk management practices. Michael holds numerous construction safety related certifications.
Michael holds a Bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University with a double major in Occupational Safety and Business Economics.
